FAQ

Frequently Asked Questions

Plastic strapping (also called polyester or PET strapping) is a high-strength banding material used to secure, bundle, and unitize products for transport and storage. It is ideal when you need corrosion-free securing, shock absorption during transit, or a lighter-weight alternative to steel strapping. Common applications include building materials, metal products, timber, and general packaging.

Battery-powered tools (like the P318, P328-S, P329-S, P331) offer maximum portability and consistent tension without an air supply. Pneumatic tools (P357, P358, P359, P380) are air-powered — ideal for production lines with existing compressed air. Manual tools (P403, P404) need no power source and are best for low-volume or remote applications.

Strap width depends on load weight and type. For light cartons and small bundles, 9–13 mm (3/8″–1/2″) straps are sufficient. Medium loads like pallets need 12–16 mm (1/2″–5/8″). Heavy industrial loads such as steel coils, timber, or concrete products require 16–32 mm (5/8″–1-1/4″) strapping for maximum holding force.

PET (polyester) strapping offers up to 50% cost savings compared to steel. It is completely corrosion-resistant so it will not damage or contaminate products. PET has superior shock absorption — it stretches and recovers during transport stress, maintaining tension even when loads settle or shrink. It is also safer to handle with less risk of injury from sharp edges.

The S-Series are FROMM next-generation smart strapping tools featuring a colour touchscreen for easy programming. They offer 3-in-1 operation (manual, semi-automatic, and automatic modes), a built-in strap database with 10 programmable profiles, PIN-code locking, and brushless motors for longer tool life. The touchscreen works even with factory gloves.

FROMM battery tools are designed for minimal maintenance. S-Series tools with brushless motors significantly reduce wear. Regular maintenance includes cleaning the strap guides, checking the base plate for wear, and ensuring battery health. FROMM offers optional accessories like cycle counters to track tool usage and plan servicing proactively.

The P318, P328-S, and P329-S are compatible with both PP and PET strapping materials. The P331 is designed exclusively for PET strapping due to its wider strap range and higher tension forces. Check the tool specifications to ensure material compatibility for your application.
