WHY FROMM

Why Choose Steel Strapping?

Steel strapping offers unmatched break strength, zero-stretch rigidity, and extreme heat resistance for heavy, high-risk industrial applications.

15,000 N

EXTREME BREAK STRENGTH

Unmatched tensile strength and holding power. Pull up to 15,000 N of tension to secure heavy industrial loads that would snap plastic banding.

0%

ZERO-STRETCH ELONGATION

Under extreme tension, steel strapping has virtually zero elongation, keeping heavy loads completely rigid and secure with no shifting.

100%

HEAT & CUT RESISTANCE

Designed for sharp edges and hot metal products directly off production lines. Will not melt, soften, or cut under severe handling.

0

SEALLESS JOINT SAVINGS

Sealless joint technology eliminates the need for separate metal seals, reducing ongoing consumable costs and speeding up strapping times.

MICRO-LOCK JOINT SECURITY

Patented Micro-Lock joint system prevents sealless joints from opening, guaranteeing maximum load security even if the load settles or shrinks.

HEAVY-DUTY STANDARDS

Meets or exceeds all global cargo and shipping guidelines for heavy-duty metal, lumber, and raw material transport.

FAQ

Frequently Asked Questions

Steel strapping is a high-tensile, heavy-duty banding material used to secure extremely heavy, rigid, and sharp-edged loads during transport and storage. It is ideal when you require maximum break strength, high heat resistance, cut resistance, and zero strap stretch. Common applications include metal coils, timber parcels, steel pipes, construction materials, and heavy industrial machinery.

Pneumatic tools (like the A383, A385, A452, A453, A461, A480, A482, and A483) are air-powered, offering high tensioning speeds, effortless push-button operation, and consistent joint sealing for high-volume industrial lines.

Manual tools (like the A301, A335, A337, A338, and A402) require no power source and are highly portable, making them ideal for remote yards, lower-volume strapping, or tasks where compressed air is unavailable.

Strap width is chosen based on load weight, tension requirements, and package shapes:

  • Light to medium loads typically use 13–19 mm (1/2″–3/4″) straps (compatible with tools like the A335 and A480).
  • Heavy industrial loads like lumber bundles, steel pipes, and steel coils require 19–32 mm (3/4″–1-1/4″) strapping for maximum structural hold (compatible with tools like the A383, A385, and A483).
  • Extremely heavy raw metal applications use wide 51 mm (2″) steel bands (compatible with the heavy-duty A453 pusher-type tool).

Steel strapping offers unmatched tensile strength and absolute rigidity (zero elongation), ensuring that extremely heavy loads cannot shift, stretch, or sag. It is highly resistant to abrasion, sharp metal edges, and high-temperature environments (where plastic would melt or cut). Steel strapping is critical for heavy industrial and hazardous cargo transport—such as heavy metal sheets, steel coils, and timber packages—where safety is paramount.

The Micro-Lock joint system is a patented sealless lock technology featured on FROMM tools (like the A337 and A338). It punches an additional locking tab into the sealless joint, preventing the interlocked steel straps from coming loose or separating if the packaged load settles, shrinks, or is subjected to high impacts during transport.

Regular maintenance ensures tool longevity and clean joints.

  • For pneumatic tools, this includes checking air pressure supply, regularly lubricating air line components, and cleaning steel dust from the tension wheel and sealer jaws.
  • For manual tools, regularly clean the tensioning mechanism of steel particles and oil the mechanical pivot points to maintain smooth mechanical leverage.

Most FROMM steel tools are engineered for specific strap width and thickness ranges to ensure clean sealless joints or perfect seal crimping. High-tensile steel strapping may require heavy-duty tools (like the A338 or A383) compared to regular-duty steel strapping. Always verify your tool’s specifications and adjust the feed wheel and cutter clearances to match the exact thickness of the steel strap you are using.
